The Paluma Push is on again this year on the 18th of July. It will be back to the full course, commencing in Paluma & finishing at Hidden Valley.
The event provides one of the main sources of revenue for the Paluma/Hidden Valley district SES & Fire Brigades with substantial donations to each determined by the number of competitors. It also allows the Paluma District Community Association to raise funds through sales at the Hidden Valley end event.
In return we need community volunteers to staff the numerous check points around the course, providing directions to competitors and feed back to race managers.
At this time we are still short on a few volunteers. If you are interested in helping please ring or text Charlie Allen
Last Saturday night’s annual Games night, hosted by Peter and Dorothy Klumpp was a great success.
Around 35 people showed up and enjoyed a meal while catching up with friends (and sizing up the competition). This year, the number of sports on offer was very diverse:
Badminton
Golf
Bowls
Table Tennis
Foosball
Archery/axe-throwing
Teams of two (one male, one female) were allocated at random; however, the excess of males over females resulted in some contestants being given honorary female status for the evening.
Figuring out which teams played which sport against which other team, and then recording the results, seemed to exercise the mind just as strenuously as the different sports exercised the body!
The competition was fierce but friendly, with the open bar providing a source of solace or fortification depending on the fortunes of the different participants throughout the event.
Once all the points had been added up there was a tie for first place, which led to a sudden death game of ping-pong tic tac toe, which required some time to understand let alone master. In the end, the winning team (Wilfred Karnoll and Ms Jamie Oliver), through sheer luck, just edged out Sandy Smythe and Ian Graniglia for the championship, with a box of chocolates given to all four.
After the end of the games, Jamie and Wilfred challenged Peter Klump and Mark Crisp to what has become a traditional table tennis “grudge match”. Peter and Mark came out on top this year, but no one seems to remember who won any of the previous years’ matches, so the grudge appears to remain unsettled.
In addition to Peter and Dorothy, many thanks are due to Mark Crisp (sausage sizzler extraordinaire) and Lynda Radbone (bar tender, mulled wine maker, and much more).
Besides masterminding the event, Peter played a crucial role in keeping the event on track and on time!
Outer Limits Adventure is looking for volunteers for this year’s Paluma Push on July 13th. This is one of Paluma’s signature events and each year the RFS and SES receive substantial donations from Outer Limits in recognition of the assistance provided by Pauma residents. If you are interested in manning a checkpoint or helping out at the start (Paluma) or finish (Hidden Valley) points of the race please register on the Paluma Push website. if you have any further questions contact Sam Stedman www.outerlimitsadventure.com.au
The NRL Grand final with the Brisbane Broncos vs the Penrith Panthers is on next Sunday (Oct 1st). If you will be up in Paluma and want to watch the game live on the big TV in the Paluma Community Hall then come along.
The Bar will be open from 5:30 pm til 8:30 pm. The game starts at 6:30 pm.
The dust ( or rather mud) has well and truly settled for those who recently participated in the Mike Carney Toyota Paluma Push on the weekend of July 15th and 16th. Muscles have recovered and the joy of crossing the finish line is a fond memory along with many formed around the warmth of the bonfire at the Hidden Valley Cricket Oval.

Paluma village was inundated with rubber, spokes and lycra but mostly smiles and laughter as people prepared for the start of their race. The beauty of the rainforest trails and bush land makes for a truly unique cross country mountain bike race which even had some of our local residents registered as participants including Rob, Sandi and Jamie. All of whom finished their designated distances hale and hearty!
The RFS and SES volunteers plus a few ‘local’ volunteers assisted with registration and monitoring various checkpoints along the routes and were able to enjoy viewing and encouraging the participants going hell for leather along the trails.
Seeing the youngsters set on doing their best in their very own race is possibly my fondest memory of Paluma Push 2023.
Paluma Push is such a great event for our village and a credit to Outer Limits Adventure for again bringing life to our sleepy little misty village on the mountain.

Our Annual Palum Games night, organised by Peter and Dorothy Klump will be held in just a few weeks, on Saturday, August 5th at the Community Hall.
The evening will start with a sausage sizzle dinner ($3.00) at 6:00 pm with the bar also open for the purchase of drinks. By 7:oo pm, the teams of two will have been announced and the various games will commence. These will include darts, indoor bowls, ping pong, and soccer pinball to name a few.
Previous years have proved a great success with lots of friendly participation mixed with bouts of enthusiastic competition. There are probably a few residents looking to topple the previous winners in some categories so the spirits will be high. Hope to see you there!
The Paluma Push is 5 weeks away on the 15th July with preparations in full swing. As you are all aware, the very generous donations that we have received from this event over many years, has greatly supported the expansion of our fire-fighting equipment and capability.
