Local Hero Awards

ATTENTION: Paluma Residents, Friends & Neighbours

DO YOU KNOW A LOCAL HERO?

This year our coastal neighbours from the Rollingstone Community Association have invited us to join them in launching a new and revamped initiative of the Townsville Northern Beaches (TNB) Local Hero Awards.

I have been assured that all of us mountain residents in the village of Paluma are considered to be an important part of the (hinterland) TNB community.

The Local Hero Awards are all about recognising individuals who make an outstanding contribution to their local community. Residents of Paluma are invited and encouraged to nominate someone from OUR local village community. Information has been provided by the Rollingstone Community Association as follows:-

Our aim is to celebrate the good works done by the pioneers of the TNB Communities selecting someone to become the “Local Hero” for the TNB for a year. We would like nominations to come from anyone in a community but the nominee MUST be over 65 years of age. We would like that their association with their community be a significant contribution over time and that it was delivered with sincerity and with absolute genuine good intention.

We will have a selection Committee; a winner (our TNB “Local Hero”) will be chosen and presented with a plaque and $200 cash, with  smaller plaques going to the nominated Pioneer from each TNB community – NORTH of the Black River. This includes the village of Paluma!

We’d really like your input and support to make this project a success.  PLEASE get behind it and spread the word within your communities and groups.

Please note that nominations are required by: COB on Friday 22 May 2019.

Send your nomination to: The Secretary, Rollingstone Community Association, 44 Community Crescent, Rollingstone QLD 4816 or send an email to: rollingstonetc@bigpond.com

Kerbside Rubbish Collection at Paluma – October 2019

Please note that TCC has scheduled the annual Kerbside Bulk Rubbish Collection at Paluma to October 2019.

The date for collection is yet to be confirmed by TCC but it will be posted to this website when the information becomes available.

For more information go to www.townsville.qld.gov.au/water-waste-and-environment/waste-and-recycling/kerbside-collection

Whilst on the subject of TCC, last Saturday (13 April) a dedicated team from Council attended to cleaning the area around the Community Hall, including the pavement, playground equipment, bbq’s, rotunda and the flagpole. The work team even tested and cleaned the flag pole in preparation for Anzac Day. The Council team was led by Mr. Michael Pine.

The PDCA and Paluma residents extend their thanks to the Council team for their hard work in making this area clean and presentable after the floods, and in preparation for the Easter long weekend and Anzac Day.

Ecologica Exhibition

On Friday evening  5th April Lynn & Les Hyland visited the TYTO Gallery in Ingham for the opening of their new exhibition “Ecologica”, comprising works by three artists : Heather Byrne [Pastel] ; Linda Bates [Clay] and, from Paluma, Sarah Swan [Glass]. Sarah has had a table at the Paluma Markets and her lead-light work is really spectacular. She had a great many pieces on display, in particular, her “Seahorses” took this writer’s fancy.

Sarah owns 18 Mt Spec Rd, and, following the death of Roy Mackay, has also purchased 77 Mt Spec Rd. which she intends to transform into a gallery displaying her work. This she tells us, is a work already in progress.

The “Ecologica” exhibition is open until May 5th 2019 and if you can, do make an effort to see it – time very well spent. TYTO Gallery is open from 10.00 hrs to 16.00 hrs.

News From Our Rollingstone Neighbours

Good morning,

Hope you are starting to dry out a little up there. We have a school holiday activity on the 11th of April, if you would like to share if there are any younger members of your community.

We enjoy checking out your webpage and try to keep up to date with any events you have, so as we can share to Rollingstone and surrounds.

Attached is some information about a Circus Acrobat group that will be held at Rollingstone Community Centre next week. Please feel free to share.
