Rainforest Trees

Trees are the key structural components to rainforests. There are hundreds of species which all contribute the the amazing diversity of habitats and climate that makes rainforests the most diverse terrestrial ecosystem on our planet.

Most rainforest trees are frustratingly difficult for the casual observer, and even well-motivated natural history buffs to identify. Often key characters such as leaves, flowers and fruit are far to high in the canopy to be easily examined for small details that are crucial for identification. Never theless there are some that can be readily identified from bark, trunk or root characteristics, or from their dropped fruit during the (often sadly short) fruiting season.
