Mammals

The most common mammals around Paluma houses are the white-tailed rat, long-nosed bandicoot, red-necked pademelon and small Antichinus  that often manage to enter houses and take up residence in a cupboard or drawer.  Dingos are fairly common in the local forest but are rarely seen in the village since the closure of the dump.  There have been reports of spotted-tailed quolls in the village but no confirmed sightings in many years.

Monotreme mammals (Palytypus & Echidna) are also regular visitors to the village with recent sightings of Platypus on the village weir and an echidna in gardens on the eastern end of the village.  In order to determine if we have a resident individual (or perhaps several) in the village weir, we have set up a record of sightings that any villager or visitor can contribute to. See the Platypus sightings page for more details.
