Paluma hosts a variety of events each year featuring music, arts, sport and local history. These include weekly History Displays and annual events such as the Bush Dance, Paluma Push and Ephemera in the Mist.
We also welcome expressions of interest from anyone wishing to host an event up in the mist. Event venues available for booking include the Community Hall, the Paluma Environmental Education Centre, and Gumburu Catholic Education Centre. See the links for more information.

Rainforest Plant Identification Short Course 2018

$500 – $600Presented by the Australian Tropical Herbarium and James Cook University, the Rainforest Plant Identification Short Course has been developed for the interested lay person. The three day course is held annually in Paluma at the end of November and covers such topics as ‘what is a rainforest?’ how plants are named, and plant structure and terminology. There are walks in the rainforest, ‘hands on’ learning through identification of local native plants and a review of important rainforest plants and features used to identify them in the field.
This year’s course will run from 23 to 25 November.
Participants will arrive at JCU’s Paluma house on the evening before the course starts for dinner at 7.30 pm. Teaching will run from 8.30 am to 4.00 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with work-books and hand lenses provided. Meals also are provided. Course Fees are $600, which includes dormitory accommodation at JCU’s house, or $500 with no accommodation.
