It is with great sorrow that we report the passing of Kelly Davis, a long-time Paluma resident and active member of the community. Kelly passed away last Friday night. Kelly’s long association with Paluma, and the various roles and friendships he established here warrant a more detailed tribute. My most recent memories of Kelly come from recent Anagama firings at Len Cook’s kiln where he spend nightly vigils stoking the furnace and monitoring firing temperatures. But there is much more to tell about this man, so please email me (j.k.oliver@outlook.com) if you have any other information or anecdotes so that his contributions can be fully acknowledged in a separate post.
When I first returned to Paluma I used to hang out with Len Cook to shoot the breeze over cups of tea. I have fond memories of Kelly as he sometimes stopped by while we were there together and would join us for a chat. I truly admired Kelly’s warmth and thought of him as a spirited, intelligent and gentle man. Now as I remember Kelly I see his full smile and beautiful eyes as he drives on by Len and I, his open palm raised in farewell before resting on the window sill.
My thoughts go out to all those who knew Kelly and to his family I express my deepest condolences.
Kelly Davis and Family were part of the Forrest Beach Surf Lifesaving Club from the early 80’s until they moved from the district. Kelly was treasured member of the club becoming a life member in 1986/87, done his bronze medallion at the club. His young family were involved and proved to be talented in all parts of surf lifesaving. Kelly was a hard worker and was a great role model for many members of the club and will be sorely missed.
