We are deeply saddened to report the recent passing of Stafford Browne, long-time resident of Hussey Road, Paluma. Stafford, best known to his Paluma friends and family as ‘Staff’ passed away on 11 December 2019. He will be fondly remembered this week at a private ‘Celebration of Life’ in Townsville. 1. I would like to also extended my condolences to Merle and family.

When I was appointed as Principal at the Paluma Environmental Education Centre in July 2000, Merle and Staff were our very capable cooks. They both took a keen interest in the children of visiting groups. We asked the class teacher to alert us to any child having a birthday while on excursion. Merle made them a birthday cake, which was ceremoniously marched out to Tucker Terrace with a sparkler on top, instead of a candle, and serenaded with Staff’s saxaphone rendition of “Happy Birthday”. Merle and Staff also provided each birthday girl or boy with a small birthday present, which they funded themselves.

I am the first to admit that we sometimes disagreed on things, but I am also very appreciative of the support both Merle and Staff gave to the Centre in their time there.
    Linda
