Paluma is not quite cool enough for full-sized Rhododendron trees, but the tropical varieties within the genus Vireya do very well and put on a great show when in full flower. The less conspicuous but lovely red-flowered native species, Vireya lochiae, which is found only on the top of north Queensland’s highest mountains, also grows in Paluma.
